Thankfully, Leon’s dialogue in the debut trailer hints that he’s the same character we played a few years ago in Resident Evil 2 (2019) and not some (although awesome) stereotypical action hero. For this reason, having Leon spout one-liners the entire time would throw off the tone established in recent entries. Not only that, but the reimagined scenarios of each remake so far demonstrate that our favorite zombie-slaying characters are emotionally scarred from their previous experiences. Hallways were pitch black, playable characters took more damage, and there was nigh a boulder in sight for our heroes to punch. I got 13 playthroughs out of RE2 Remake, I got about the same amount from RE4 (not counting all the playthroughs spent in future systems/ports). Otherwise, REmake 2 wins easily because RE4s camera controls are terrible now. These modernizations amped up the horror aspect of Resident Evil in ways that they were not seen since the original Playstation entries. If were talking RE4 in its day, then its a really tough call.
The same can not be said for the recently released Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. From Leon’s iconic one-liners such as “Where’s everybody going? Bingo?” to the charactization of Ramon Salazar, the original Resident Evil 4 embraces campy horror with no shame. There are 127 Collectibles divided into 7 types and 9 Weapons.
